Marie Z Johnston profile

Paris has been my "home away from home" as well as my "home" for decades. My mother was Parisienne; her family lived in the 15th and the 11th, both quartiers are still my regular, if unintentional, haunts. Shopping in the marchés (farmers markets) was a way of life for my family, which meant following the rhythm of the seasons on our plates... it still remains unthinkable for me to eat strawberries in December from New Zealand or tomatoes from Israel in April. Writing about food, the people who grow it and those who prepare it with love comes naturally and feeds a passion of mine to "spread the word." Looking back, it is difficult to determine if my love of photography grew from that passion or visa versa. In either case, both certainly contribute to the best excuse in the world for exploring this marvelous city and beyond.
