The Villa Panthéon – It’s Not What You Expect

By Karen Fawcett

If your idea of a Paris hotel is one filled with French antiques and ever so charming bibelots, this is not the hotel for you. However, if you’re looking for a Latin Quarter location, smart and chic décor and four-star service, this could very well be your hotel.

Walk through its Haussmann façade and you’ll be feel as if you’ve entered a London hotel complete with leather Chesterfield sofas, an open courtyard and a piano bar off to the side that is stocked with an extensive collection of Scottish whiskeys in addition to all of the usual boissons.

A doorman greets you and escorts you and your baggage to your room after you check in. Take a minute to survey the Villa Panthéon. It doesn’t qualify in any way as being boring.

The interior designer, who oversaw the renovation two years ago, wasn’t timid when it came to selecting colors and mixing dark lattice wood accents with lacquered walls, and parquet floors. In the bedrooms, you’ll be welcomed by vividly tasteful wallpapers and fabrics for people who appreciate modern –opposed to trendy. Yes, there is every type of amenity (with the exception of a gym) including modem connects.

Each room, no matter its size is designed with an eye for detail. Reading lights are placed where they should be, closets are outfitted with shelves and one could eat off of the highly buffed floors.

If bathrooms are your thing, you won’t be disappointed. These are modern and each comes equipped with plenty of storage, towels galore plus (and what, for me, screams “pampered”) thick terry cloth robes. The frosted glass sinks are pieces are art. Form married to function.

Speaking with the hotel’s director Marc Sabatin, it is evident that he cherishes “his” property. While conducting a tour, his eyes were darting with watchful pride. However, you know that he runs a VERY tight ship.

Would I check into the Villa Panthéon?You bet.
