French Vacation Calendar 2006 2007

By Riana Lagarde

It is that time again, time to think of when exactly are the French vacation times so that we can plan things like Skiing the Alps, séjours to Tunisia, weekends in Brittany and exactly when every single Parisian gets into their Citroen to leave gay Paris (a good thing to know if you are innocently driving on the Périphérique that day and find yourself in the biggest traffic jam ever).

Halloween (yes, we get ten days off for Halloween, how great is that?) and Christmas breaks are the same for all the regions—October 25th thru November 6th and December 22nd thru January 8th. But the others: Winter and Spring/Easter are spread out so that the roads don’t get too congested nor the ski slopes. Plenty of businesses follow the school break calendar to take their six weeks minimum of vacation time so this schedule affects almost everyone including tourists who innocently land in the midst of the mass exodus or worse the mass return!

The Hexagon is divided into three Zones A,B and C for each school region. To look at the nice colourful map go to the Government Website.

Zone A is the regions of Caen, Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble, Lyon, Montpellier, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Rennes, and Toulouse
