Stacy: have you taken any interesting and new tours recently??

Unfortunately they aren't allowed to do the train tour any longer, but they do offer a walking tour instead.

Has anybody tried the late night tour of the Paris Metro?

I read that article as well. Sounds like interesting fun. Can't wait to do it.

There was another article about the tour in todays San Francisco Chronicle and it gave a website for making reservations. The website is : http://ademas.assoc.free.fr/

Alexandra, I take the metro all of the time late at night. I even take the lines that some people suggest women stay away from late at night, but I have never had a problem. I have never been mugged or harrassed on the metro system. I have seen quite a few crazy people and rough looking people, but I just don't make eye contact. I'm also super cautious about how I carry my purse and what kind of purse I carry. Not only do I take the metro right before closing time, but I also walk around Paris after midnight and feel totally safe in the 1st through 6th, and 14th Arrondisements. I haven't been to the other
Arrondisements after midnight. Have a great time in Paris.

Pickpockets seem to be the biggest problem on the Metro. There is some groping, according to women I know, during rush hours. But it is apparently not as bad as some cities in Japan and Brazil, where they have had to put on "women only" trains and buses. Tommy

I haven't heard about it, but we can't say agressions don't exist.
I have already seen a man fighting another, or strange people, agressive behaviours toward men or women.
But it's not especially after 10 PM.
In the contrary, after 10 PM the people go back home by metro after a party, so there is always a lot of people in the trains, it's more secure than when you are alone in a train...
It's called French Urban Legend laugh.gif
I read the article in CNN, and forwarded it to my friend Claude, but he hasn't replied b ack on it. I know he's a bit of a train buff, so I'm interested in what he has to say.

The kind of thing Alexandra describes would be on the worldwide pages of the news, so I would put it down to uncontrolled rumor. If left unchecked, it would lead to a severe dropoff of tourists not unlike what happened to Egypt when all those German tourists got shot by tourists, and that would bring out every cop in the nation.
Nothing on the TV or in the newspapers in Paris either.

What is the source for this story?
I have not heard of it ... nor have any and all of the French newspapers I read daily. If such a thing were to have happened, it would be front page news~
I have asked several friends who live in and around Paris and they never read of that.
Wow, stgermain, that train ride sounds great! Thanks for the link.

Alexandra--I've not heard of the event you describe, though I could simply be ignorant of it. But I will say that the Metro to me remains the least threatening and least dangerous public transportation I know in any major city. After 8:30 p.m., apart from taxis, it is the only convenient transportation (unless you get lucky and are living near a night bus route), and thousands of people ride it until it closes about 12:30 or 1:00 a.m., depending on your station.

Marc
HELP!!!!!!!!!!I have heard that it's dangerous to take the metro or the rer after 10 pm...is that true??????one night a group of 15 people robbed and beated everyone that was on the train and got off on the next station......have you heard that????
