Is this done every year, or was it a special exhibit this past year?

Anna,
It's done every year, but it's not always at the same place.

During the holidays 2003, it was held a wonderful hôtel particulier at the Rond-Point on the Champs-Elysées.

Christmas Trees Exhibit

For the ones being in Paris over the holidays, I'd visit the sapin de Noël exhibit at the Pompidou Center. Some 100 Trees decorated by famous fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Helmut Lang, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel (till January 3).

Is this done every year, or was it a special exhibit this past year? It sounds fun, and I'd love to see what some of my favorite designers came up with, I'll have to see what I can find on it.

I guess it's over now but we saw this exhibit a few years ago at the Cardin space and it was very French and very cool.

Ursula, are you sure about Fireworks? They haven't had them for the past few years.

I've been reading the newspapers to see if they're happening. So far, I've yet to find the answer.

Frankly, even the lights this year are a bit disappointing. It's worth the time and the effort to take a look/see at the Galeries Lafayette. Its facade really sparkles!

Hi Phyllis! biggrin.gif

NO, as I said below, the police's ok is necessary mainly for security reasons.
Check with the Paris Tourist Office web page. Hopefully, it's updated. rolleyes.gif
Or even better, have a look at one of the daily papers next week.

Here's what it says right now:
A firework display supporting Paris’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games will be held on the evening of 31st December 2004, near to the big wheel in Place de la Concorde (8th arrondissement).

NB: information subject to the acceptance of security measures by the Préfécture de Police de Paris.

Bonnes Fêtes à toi!

In the last few years the fireworks exhibit has been non-existent, so it would be nice to see it this year. Also, the Pompidou is usually open on Christmas Day.

I have no idea, if the usual exhibit at the Hotel Meurice is on this year. Found it rather disappointing the last couple of years though.

As for the fire works:
There will be a huge one on Place de la Concorde, December 31, midnight.
Just read that the ok (mainly for security reasons) of the police has not yet been given.

the Seine into a manmade beach.According to city estimates Paris Plage atracted 3.8 million visitors!!!

3.8 million people to the beach???? Come on. The only significant meaning to those figures is that it brought that many EXTRA to Paris during the time of the beach...and I doubt that. What is it they say about figures don't lie etc. Well, don't believe them.

I understand that there was someone at each entrance to the beach with a counter. laugh.gif
