Yes, "la rentrée a eu lieu"/the "rentrée" has occurred. It took place on Sept. 4th for most "collèges"/junior high schools and "lycées"/high schools", as well as a certain number of primary schools which don't follow "la semaine" des 4/quatre jours/the four-day week"... Primary schools who follow "la semaine des 4 jours" see their "rentrée" take place earlier, during the last week of August. Here is an interesting article dedicated to "la rentrée" :

On the other hand, teachers working in "collèges" and "lycées" went back to "school" on Sept. 1st for what is called "la pré-rentrée". We attend various meetings and discuss about points related to the "projet d'établissement" (school project ???) What I find most interesting on that day is meeting the teachers I'll work with in each of the classes I teach.
Moreover, as I'm also a "professeur principal"/form or homeroom teacher in "classe de 2nde"/Seconde" ( fifth year of secondary school, age 14/15), I like meeting the teachers who will work in my "team"/"mon équipe" for the year to come... I always try to work with all the members of the "équipe éducative" (hmm, educational team ???) "main dans la main" (close together) so that every member of my team is aware of the problem (s) one of our students may be facing... Voilà ! I've been pretty busy, which prevented me from visiting this "forum sympathique"... Amicalement.
PS : Students entering university or going back to "la fac"/"l'université will "do their" "rentrée" at the end of September...
