Mar880, first of all do not take it for granted that you can not get any financial aid for different sources in the US! Check them out yourself. Call them, write them, and pester them (They can do no worse than turn you down.) Maybe this is true for gov't sources, but there are amny ptivate ones. Many have web pages, start with those. I allways take the position that "No" is not an aceptable response (it may be a fast response for one clerck but is it general Policy that can not be changed???

Good luck!

While I was studying, I was able to work at a restaurant. You will need to first get the job, ask them for a letter of embauchment and then will need to go to a center in the 10th to get your papers. I'll see if I still have the address. When you go to renew your papers make sure you do so way in advance as it can take a few months.

And always make sure you save every paper imaginable, they will ask for them!
I have known students from the States that worked while in Paris. One guy, happened to have worked for many many years at GAP in the United States. Apparently, he was a denim specialist amongst other things. So he decided he would try to get a job at GAP in Paris -- and it worked! He however was the exception . . .

Most people that worked babysat. There were always a ton of signs posted around the place looking for foreign students to do baby-sitting work.
Hello, everyone! I have just been accepted to the Sorbonne, and I am so excited! However, since I applied directly to the school, and not through an American University, I am apparently ineligible for American financial aid. Luckily, the school itself is pretty much paid for by the French government. However, cost of living in Paris is pretty high, my parents can only help me minimally (and won't co-sign a loan for me), and I will only have the right to work 20 hours a week while studying in Paris.

I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this, or knows of some way I can afford to keep a roof over my head while I am living in Paris? I have a little money saved, but it will probably only get me through the first couple of months. I have scoured the internet and library for scholarship ideas, grants, loans, etc., but I am trying to explore each and every option, and am wondering if maybe anyone else out there has any ideas I haven't considered? I just got my acceptance letter last week, and all of the deadlines to apply for financial aid from the French government have passed.

I thank you immensely for any help or advice you can give!
