Ron and Stacy: I think the three of us are in agreement. This is not the time for Congressional outings. There's too much work to be done in DC and it's rare when anything is accomplished by a delegation that's headed to Western Europe. This is no time for vacations. Give me a break. K
A certain amount of travel is no doubt legitimate, but overdoing it is definitely bad taste and bad timing, given the current state of affairs. Like many taxpayers I feel frustrated that my tax dollars are being wasted and would rather see them go toward something more useful to more people.
I would like to know what BP readers think of these recent European junkets by
members of Congress--both Democrats and Republicans. It seems to me that these
trips are nothing more than sightseeing tours disguised as "official business."
These trips cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. These junkets
are nothing new--they have been going on for decades, but the timing of these
recent trips could not have come at a worse time when the American economy is
going down the toilet. What are these people thinking????
