When men debate women: Biden/Palin and Sarkozy/Royal

Please don't get me started. The U.S. debates were not debates. They were formats where the participants were not discussing issues. It would have been ever so much productive to hear the their political differences and what changes they would make.

These events were more akin to photo opportunities where the candidates ran the show.
CNN had an interesting piece on the strategies involved in these groundbreaking events and how perhaps they weren't so different in our two countries.

I admit I liked the format of the French debate, where the candidates sat on opposite sides of the table facing each other. It felt like more of a discussion than a public address, whereas in the US debates the candidates often address the public or the commentator and seem to have less interaction with each other.
