The most amazing thing to me is that the right wing NRA (and right wingers in general)are opposed to gun regulation and yet the same right wing police departments (who fight crime every day) are strongly in favor of regulation of gun sales.

No arguments from me on that subject Al...
Stay safe in the "Big City"... ph34r.gif

in effect will not stop the bad guys from owning one...

According to the records our Virginia Tech student wasn't a "bad guy" by definition yet he was able to walk into a gun shop, plunck down almost $600 and walk out with a very sophisticated pistol (and a ton of ammo) that would hardly be used for varmints. The NYPD has found that bad guys in NYcity walk into Virginia gun shops to commit crimes in NY. The state of V. even passd a law to prevent NY from defending itself against these gun shops.

gun, even several of them, not to kill people or commit crimes, but to hunt and to protect their families should the need arises.

Vraiment? Just wondering.....any idea of the rate of such need and net results in your neighborhood?

Yes Al, I may "eat my words" someday, but I have lived here going on 40 years and we have had zero crime in my area... at least in my immediate area.
Living in the country, we have varmints of course such as coyotes that attack livestock and our pets, so you bet that the folks have to use their guns now and then.
In the surrounding towns however, that's another story, there is a lot of crime, even in well to do neighborhoods, except perhaps in the town mentioned in the link I posted yesterday.
http://www.tysknews.com/Depts/2nd_Amend/cr...te_plummets.htm
But here again, I smell politics from a "certain group" of politicians that we both despise.
In posting this link, I was only trying to support what Stacy said regarding the bas guys and the gun laws.
Don't get me wrong, I hate guns, but we live in a violent Country, a Country where the criminals have sometimes more rights than the victims and I will assert that all the gun laws that our politicians may put in effect will not stop the bad guys from owning one...

Wow, do I disagree. Living in the North(Boston) NO ONE I know has guns. But yet in th burbs the poor are able to buy guns and are usually teens. WHAT'S WRONG with THIS PICTURE?
They are not expensive if teens can buy them,
The laws are not strict enough.
Guns should be usd to hunt food but not violence.
Guns kill people, it's that simple., but bad people with guns kill people.
I don't want to set up an arguement so this is my last post on this sad moment of history in my country.
Pray we learn from this.

Well Mimi, for on thing that's the difference as to where we live...
Around here where I live, with very few exceptions perhaps, everybody I know has a gun, even several of them, not to kill people or commit crimes, but to hunt and to protect their families should the need arises.
I repeat that personally I hate guns, I do not hunt nor kill anything, however, if a time came that my family would be threaten, I can assure you that I would not have any hesitation in protecting the one I love... Me included dry.gif
We all suffer from this last tragedy...

It's been on the TV news in France yesterday and today. Naturally, as on the news a few minutes ago, it leads to commentary on guns in the US. According to their story, 4 out of 10 American owns a gun or guns, and every American can own as many guns as they want because it's in the constitution.

I've seen other reports here in the past which give the impression that there are guns in every US household.

I have to admit that, other than a few pheasant and deer hunters, I don't know anyone who owns a gun. Perhaps I have just led a sheltered life?

Unfortunately, I don't believe any gun laws could prevent tragedies such as the one in Virginia. The people who are determined to do such things will do them, laws or no. sad.gif

Hello...
I live in the Country here in Georgia USA, and just about everybody I know owns a gun, me included and only for protection since I do not hunt.
As you will see in the above link, there are some cities that require gun ownership, and not just in Georgia.
I do not like guns believe me, and I also agree 100% with Stacy... All the gun laws in the World can not stop the bad guys to buy a gun and use it.

Sorry to sound hysterical but 32 deaths is a shocking thing to hear that happened on a campus.

This is a huge tragedy and such a waste of lives. Such a sad incitement of society.

Sorry to sound hysterical but 32 deaths is a shocking thing to hear that happened on a campus.
I couldn't not mention this horrible murder of Profs and students had and still have a shooting almost every day, mostly young people, victums or shooters.
How can anyone in good conscience fight gun laws?
We need parents to be aware of what their children are up to and what values are they instilling.
WHAT A TERRIBLE DAY!
