The burqa in France; President Sarkozy's view

If you haven't read Karen's article in this week's BP newsletter, you should read it. President Sarkozy gave a speech at Versailles during which he said in part, “The issue of the burqa is not a religious one. It’s a question of freedom and of women’s dignity,” President Sarkozy said, adding, “It’s a sign of the subjugation and the submission of women.” He sated that the burqa would not be welcome in France.

I couldn't agree more with him, but is banning the burqa the right approach? What do BP'ers think?
