Toulon has some excellent seafood restaurants on the water's edge. A sizable high tech industry has developed there as people like its quality of life! Definitely more Mediterranean in feel than Parisian.
Thanks Karen

Mmmmm seafood.....

You're welcome--let me know if I can be of more help.
Thank you BP Jean for the wonderful information! The area sounds so beautiful. I can't wait to see it in person.
Toulon is a large, busy city that is headquarters for the Mediterranean fleet; you can take tours of the harbor. The old town is interesting, and there is a fine marine museum. The Michelin Green Guide to the Côte d'Azur has several pages of information on additional sights, so you would find enough to keep you busy for a day or two.
Near Toulon is the town of Hyères, bedecked with flowers and offering a pleasant old town. A little farther along the coast are Le Lavandou, with fine beaches, and the hill town of Bormes-les-Mimosas, a really delightful place to visit. There's a fine view of the Mediterranean from the town, which is rather like Carmel, CA: pretty houses with flowers spilling down from windows and balconies and narrow, winding streets to explore.
I am interested in taking a trip to Toulon/Var region and would appreciate any information that anyone could provide about the city.
