I have no problem with cell-free areas as long as they're enforced. It seems whenever I've been in a cell-free car on the train, people always ignore that and use their phones anyway. mad.gif

I plead guilty when it comes to trains and cell phones. BUT -- if I receive a call, I leave the car.

I don't want people hearing my conversation and I certainly don't want to hear theirs.

As for planes ... be still my heart. Not to say, I don't welcome WiFi.

Can you imagine being trapped in a middle seat between two people carrying on different conversations on their cell phones, especially on a long flight? I'd literally go crazy! blink.gif

I can't imagine being in a middle seat on a long flight, anyway; seat mates on cells would push me over the edge.

In New York state, there's a law that drivers can't be on cell phones unless it's hand free. I wish I had a dime for every driver I see on a cell, though.
I am all for cell-free areas. Since I am back into the travel mode this year, I got a membership to the AA Admiral's club. I tend to stay in the cell-free areas. I don't mind the people working away on their laptops, but I really get irritated at the loud conversations by people with their hands-free phones. At least you can move away from the conversation. I can only imagine how noisy it could be on a plane if the phones were in use by people who don't seem to understand simple courtesy.

Mimi: That's an interesting question. When people visited me in France when I fist moved here (19 years ago), I'd supply everyone with a phone card in the event they needed to call the apartment.
NOW, there aren't any phone booths and I need to have an extra cell tel.

I like being able to connect to the Internet when I'm on a long trip. But, I do hope the airlines will have "quiet" areas (such as the TGV) and insist people use ear phones and keep their voices down.

How do others feel??
It's a disaster waiting to happen!!!Plane rage, I'll be one of the outraged. i'm so mad with cell phone users who yap as I'm sitting in the doctor's office, Who don't look where they are going as they walk or cross streets, who talk above my head while I'm sitting in the subway, They seem to talk louder when on their phones., I was in Barney's the other day and someone was on her phone talking so loud that sh could be heard in another part of the store and don't get me started about th drivers who talk and drive!!!

NooooOooOOoooooOOOOOOoooooooOOOOooo!

Does that tell you how I feel about it? laugh.gif

I was so relieved when the US airlines decided not to approve mobile phone use in the air... it never occurred to me that the Europeans would allow it.

I wonder if this will lead to more "air rage" incidents? Though perhaps the fees will limit casual usage somewhat (one can only hope).

I'd at least like to see it limited to text and email only, with people turning off any alert sounds and putting their devices on vibrate or silent mode.

How do you feel about this?
